Questions that need to be answered

2015-07-22 06:00

Sir, FIRSTLY, I congratulate municipal employees who are doing their utmost to keep our town clean and running smoothly.

However, I have some concerns about the way ratepayersand#039; money is being frittered away and wasted on non-essentials in these tough economic and drought-stricken times.

A few weeks ago there was a tender for new municipal offices and/or equipment etc., for R30 million (over 10 years), and then last week there was the report on how much of our money is being spent on the mayor.

My questions - are there short and long-term goals in place as to where Umvoti is going? Are the powers that be making decisions for the good of all or are they in it purely for personal power and gain. Is the municipality overstaffed and/or understaffed as there appears to be many workers around not doing much, and are the staff trained and held accountable for machinery and equipment etc., because if equipment and so on were serviced, maintained and properly looked after there would be no need to buy new equipment so often.

As our major problem at the moment is the water situation, I propose, before any more money is wasted, that it be utilised to provide gutters (where needed) and Jojo tanks so that every house in Greytown and surrounding areas at least has one.

Wake up - without water there is no life, no crops, no food, no business and no more golden goose to lay the egg that provides the money to feather your nests.

Alert and aware
