St Cathryn’s news

2015-05-20 06:00

SATURDAY’S Farmers’ Agri-Care Monthly Mug was almost cancelled due to the low number of players, but a late four-ball entry from Greytown saved the day.

The “Stroke 18” golf touring team from Durban were also on the course and opted to play in their own format and looking at their scores, they would have walked over us locals should they have opted to play in Farmers’ Agri-Care Mug.

Paul Els shot out of the starting blocks faster than Usain Bolt and started with a birdie on hole one, eagle on the par 5 hole number 5, to turn halfway with a 34 gross.

Just before he entered St Cathrynand#039;s own “amen” corner, he got another birdie on the par 4,13th and then got a seven on the par 5,16th to make damage to his scorecard with a 39 on the second nine and a total of gross 73 and a nett 69.

The hero of the day was that man Steve Muna. Man oh man, he entered a score of a nett 67 to walk away the winner. Steve played the course with his uncle and aunt, Mr and Mrs Hopwood from Mt Edgecombe who enjoyed the day in the country side.

Results - first Steve Muna nett 67, second Paul Els nett 69 and third Deon van Dyk nett 70.

Captain’s putter was Mrs Maret Hopwood. Closest to pin 9th/18th Steve Muna.

The touring golf group had mixed fortunes when they arrived after their golf game at Boschoek on Friday evening on the second day of their three-day golf tour on their way to Umhlali for the last game of the golf day. Coming from Durban and the South Coast these golfers felt the evening chill and at that stage their leader in the clubhouse was Christo.

These golfers, on their second visit to St Cathrynand#039;s, had an early start on Sunday morning to tee off at Umhlali Golf Course at 7am.

Results of the St Cathrynand#039;s leg of the tour - first Christo Grewar 42 point, second Mark Kingma 39 points, third SW Earusmus 38 points, fourth Herman Potgieter 31 oco, fifth Louis van Wyk and longest dricve on the first Christo Grewar.

Thank you to the and#034;Stroke 18and#034; group for their visit, we enjoyed all the fun and forward to seeing them again.
