UMVOTI football will benefit from the successful D-licence course for coaches which was held from 29 June to 3 July under the sponsorship of Umzinyathi Safa.

This was the first such course held in Umzinyathi district as well as for the Umvoti Local Football Association.

Newly qualified Safa coach instructor Mbongeni Joe Ngubane, head coach for Umzinyathi, and Nkosi Jef, a Safa instructor, head coach of Amajuba and head of the KZN provincial technical committee, of which Ngubane is a member, trained the 14 Umvoti participants in the development of football in Umvoti.

The newly trained coaches are Godfried Ngiba, Sanele Gwala, Sihlengwanguye Ngidi, Sibusiso Madonsela, Bheki Mbuthu, Nkosiyethu Khoza, Philani Sikhakhane, Nhlakanipho Ngubane, Siyabonga Mbatha, Thandokuhle Chonco, Sibusiso Gwala, Mzingelwa Madlala, Mbangiseni Zondi, Thokazani Dlamini and Mbangeleni Zondi.

On the final day of the training week children from various homes and centres in Greytown were invited to a and#034;festivaland#034; in which they played football, games and interacted with the coaches and officials. The day was topped off with a meal for all of them.

Mbongeni Ngubane expressed his appreciation to the hard work and commitment of all participants during the week and a special word of thanks went to Umvoti Local Football Association, in particular the chairperson, Lucky Dlamini, for support and assistance.

For football players who would like to take part in a training course three more will be held from 9 to 13 July, at Msinga, from 23 to 27 July at Nquthu and from 6 to 10 August at Endumeni. - M.J. Ngubane
