IT is one of the most exciting and challenging motorbike events on the biking calendar - the Valley 2 Valley Navigational Motorbike Enduro - which took place at St Cathryn’s Golf Estate last weekend and is the second year the event has taken place.

From February, Roger Scheffer and Deon Bruss rode nearly every weekend looking for tracks and planning the route for the two-day navigational enduro bikers had to ride and navigate by GPS predetermined tracks.

Day one consisted of a 95km track starting at St Cathryn’s, going into the Lilani Valley and up to Ematitolo. Day two was a 84km track again starting at St Cathryn’s and heading into the Tugela Valley.

In total 111 riders took part in teams of two, coming from Gauteng and Mpumalanga, and as far as Groblersdal. KZN had a great turn-out and there was a lot of support from Greytown riders.

There has been positive feedback from the riders who enjoyed the route and the friendly welcome from the community, who came to watch the event. One team were even treated to a gida (dance) from the locals and one rider said he felt like Michael Jackson riding through the crowds of jovial supporters.

The Race Food Thulini Roof section of the race is a steep gradient with big rocks, which makes it very technical and created much entertainment for spectators.

R3 000 was donated to communities’ vegetable- growing projects for seedlings and irrigation equipment, co-ordinated by the Mondi Community liaison.

Valley 2 Valley organisers thank the land owners and communities who allowed riders to use and ride through their property, because without their co-operation events like this cannot happen.

A big thank you to event sponsors - Racefood, New Holland, TR TEC Adventures, Mascor, Supaquik Greytown and Aquelle.

Thank also you to Piet and Cathy Nel and the catering team at St Cathryn’s for keeping riders and spectators fed and thank you to Greytown supporters and communities who watched
