Wembley Old Scholars’ Hockey Club news

2015-08-26 06:01

THE Wembley Old Scholars’ Hockey Club has had a fantastic hockey season. The club - established last year - has grown in strength and numbers and currently boasts 44 club members, including six Midlands Country Districts players. The OSHC held its annual year-end dinner on Saturday 15 August, with this year’s theme being a “sixties dress-up”. The guest of honour was Greg Bye (Midlands Country District’s Hockey chairman). The following trophies were awarded: Sportsmanship Jug – Marc Hampson, Women’s Player of the Year – Sian Eustice, Men’s Player of the Year – Sean Sneyd, Club Member of the Year – Dieter Meyer. In addition, the top goal scorers were Sian Eustice (5) and Martin Bloy (7), and Jacques du Preez was named the Player’s Player for 2015. The club has also been raising funds which will be contributed towards the establishment of the astro clubhouse. Dieter handed over a R30 450 cheque to the school on behalf of the team of golfers who completed the 72 holes of golf as a fund-raiser. Furthermore, club members contributed an additional R7 000 from their fund-raising efforts this season. On behalf of Wembley College we would like to extend our thanks to these players, as well as to club members who assisted in fund-raising throughout the season. Progress on the clubhouse fund-raising drive can be monitored by the barometer on the side of the pavilion. Let’s work together to reach our target.
