ON Friday 24 April, the Foundation Phase hosted another Grandparent’s Day, attended by more than 180 people. The morning started with a concert by the children singing and dancing and reciting poetry.

This was followed by tea, prepared by Capitol Catering. This year our grandparents were generous and brought socks which were donated to the Greytown Children’s Home and Arcadia.

After tea, guests moved to classrooms to spend time with their grandchildren. This is a very special time for the children where they get to “show off” their work, read to granny or to brag about their art on the walls.

This year, the Foundation Phase focussed on the gardens rather than the library, so Pippa Harris from the Country Nursery provided trees and plants which grandparents’ bought and donated to the school. Through their wonderful generosity, we bought trees and plants to the value of R5 000. Our thanks go to the members of our community who stood in for absent grannies. Their presence was most appreciated.

On Tuesday 28 April, Wembley hosted a sports festival where the Grade 1 and 2 boys played in a soccer tournament, and the girls played in a hockey tournament. As this was the first opportunity the Grade 1 pupils have had in terms of playing matches, this was an especially exciting time. Thank you to the parents who attended.

Luke Porée participated in the first round of Midlands U13 rugby trials on Wednesday 22 April in Howick. After a fine performance he was selected to carry on to the second round.
