Beware of fraud

2016-02-03 06:00

A NUMBER of fraud cases have been reported in which the customer has paid for the goods before actually seeing them and then not receiving them.
Greytown SAPS communication officer Zama Madonda told the Greytown Gazette that goods are advertised online and in newspapers and the “seller” demands a deposit prior to the buyer seeing the goods.
The scammer will advertise a really good deal, which is in such demand, that a deposit must be paid immediately to ensure that the buyer gets it. In many instances, the scammer then disappears with the deposit and the victim is left out of pocket, and embarrassed.

The police advise that if customers wish to buy online, they should request to see the item being sold and they must take proper precautions and check all the requirements of a sale (such as a sale contract for vehicles).

Customers must not be in a rush to pay since scammers take advantage of this convenient way of shopping.
