Craigieburn pipeline, still a dream

2016-08-24 06:00

AT the water meeting called by Umzinyathi District Municipality last month, Umvoti mayor Thami Ngubane, in response to a query on progress of the Craigieburn pipeline, told the public that the three contractors, who had not done their jobs had been fired.
Umzinyathi Municipal Manager Dr Thombela and the mayor assured the public that new contractors would be appointed on merit and not on political connections.
It was also stated that the project was being accelerated and would be monitored by the Department of Water and a technical task team

However, the Greytown Gazette understands that the project is once again at a standstill with no work being undertaken on the pipeline. So the timeline given by water service provider Umzinyathi at the July meeting that the pipeline would be operating by September at the earliest, but more than likely December, again appears to be a pipe dream.
