Does anyone know the rules of the road?

2017-07-12 06:02

I LIVE in Johannesburg, which, as you might be aware of, does not have a good reputation in regard to the standard of driving and drivers’ behaviour.

But I must say, having just spent two weeks in your beautiful town with my daughter and her family I have never seen such appalling and a total disregard for the rules of the road and other users as here.

Driving down your main street with the barrier in the middle - vehicles do U turns over it.

I lost count of the number of official traffic policing cars I saw with the drivers not wearing a seat belt and often on a cellphone - talking on cellphones while driving seems be a way of life here and finally a municipality Quantum, which on two occasions, nearly took me out as the driver, appears to believe that he does not have to stop at a stop street before turning right.

Greytown has always been a special town, but seems to be veering more to the Wild West than anything else.
