IN a joint operation last week in Muden, Greytown crime intelligence unit, Greytown and Muden SAPS seized eight vehicles, suspected to have been stolen.
Acting on a tip off last Monday, the joint force raided a homestead in Kwaljeje. However, the owner was not home at the time.

KZN SAPS spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker said that all eight vehicles had been tampered with – engine numbers had either been altered or erased.
Two R5 rifle magazines with ammunition, a 9mm magazine with ammunition were also seized as well two gas bottles suspected to have been used to strip the vehicles.
In addition, Naicker said, a stencil used to alter vehicle ID numbers, a R200 fake note and other items used to manufacture fake notes and vehicle parts were recovered by the police.

The vehicles were transported to Pietermaritzburg for further investigation.

An appeal was made to the public not to support “such chop shops “as such parts were obtained after the owners were subjected to “heinous acts of crime” said KZN acting Commission Major General Bheki Lange.
In view of the high rate of vehicle theft and hijacking in KZN, he said it was very pleasing that the police had been able to close down the Muden operation.
