Elderly suffer in winter without assistance

2016-07-27 06:00

MR Sbusiso Dladla (64) lives in abject poverty alone in a dilapidated shack in Ward 8 Muden, and although he gets a pension, he is emotionally unstable.
KZN provincial officials came to see him on 17 June and promised to build a decent home for him, but nothing has materialised.
The frail man has been pleading for assistance.
A social worker, who visited him this month said: “He needs help and especially now that it is winter he's not coping."

A spokesperson for the Zimbanbelini Community Development in the area, told Greytown Gazette that there are many elderly people in Muden and adjacent rural communities in the same situation.
Zimbambeleni would welcome any support support in the form of blankets, food or anything to keep these people warm and nourished this winter in the harsh conditions under which they live.

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
