THE KZN MEC for Education, Mthandeni Khethomthandayo Dlungwana was the main guest speaker at the KZN Provincial World Teachers’ Day and National Teachers Awards on 5 October.

He was accompanied by Head of Department, Dr Enock Vusumuzi Nzama and members of senior management.

According to Unesco World Teachers’ Day represents a significant token of the awareness, understanding­ and appreciation displayed for the vital contribution that teachers make towards education­ and development of society.

The KZN Provincial ELRC and the KZN Department of Education deemed it necessary to celebrate the vital role of teachers in providing quality education and to acknowledge contributions and achievements of teachers in education.

During the World Teachers’ Day celebration, National Teaching award winners in various categories were recognised and acknowledged with certificates and awards.

The National Teaching Awards is a programme aimed at acknowledging, recognising, rewarding and saluting excelling, creative and dedicated teachers for their extraordinary efforts often achieved under difficult conditions in service to children, schools and communities.

Greytown Primary School, Mr J. Moonsamy received a National Teaching Award in the Excellence in Secondary School Leadership category.
