THIS Saturday’s “get your pink on” is not only to fund-raise for a number of projects creating awareness of cancer, but also to provide entertainment, fun and information.
Opening at 10am in the Greytown Feeding Project hall in Voortrekker Street, there is the Shavathon in which individuals can either have their head shaved or spray painted in a range of colours (colour washes out) in support of cancer patients and survivors. The charge is R50 per head and all goes to cancer funds.

Organiser Zeena Ally of Superbody told the Greytown Gazette that one of the highlights would be the talk and slides by the now famous Expeditionists, Thommo Hart and Simphiwe Fiddy Ngcobo on their recent record-breaking walk to Maputo and back with Thommo completing the entire 1 535km walk barefoot and establishing a world record.
They walked in the steps of the legendary John Ross – Thommo to raise funds for Pink Drive cancer projects and Simphiwe for a handicapped children’s school. They will talk and illustrate this exciting adventure at 1pm. Thommo, who lost his mother to cancer, will also speak on the loss of a loved one.

Brief talks on cancer awareness and prevention will also be given by cancer survivors from 1pm.

Food will be on sale, vegetable breyani, wors rolls, roti rolls and of course, the popular cupcakes for cancer, cool drinks and water.

For the newly bald or those with the colours of the rainbow, Claudia Rische of Hermannsburg will take photographs and Raksha Roopai will paint nails bright pink for R100.
A Greytown Hospital unit will undertake free screenings of blood pressure, sugar and cholesterol.

Just about every individual in the district has been touched by cancer through a family member or friend - so please support this important cancer awareness day on Saturday from 10am with talks starting at 1pm, and please wear something pink.
