Going green at Umshwathi Youth Co-op

2017-07-12 06:01

THE Umshwathi youth at the Dukathole Youth Co-operative received a boost for the development of their vegetable planting project when the Rural Development and Land Reform Deputy Minister Ms Mashego Dlamini paid a visit linked to Youth Month and the development of employment.

She presented the co-op with 10 hydroponic tunnels, a packing house, mobile office, a mobile cold room, office equipment, delivery bakkie and branding.

National Youth Development Agency sponsored the co-operative with stationery, seeds, fertiliser, irrigation system and soft-skills vouchers. uMgungundlovu District Municipality sponsored the youth co-op with a water pump and an irrigation system.

Following this the deputy minister and officials visited two co-ops at Masiqhakaze and Vuyelihle that specialise in sawing and children aftercare.

Then uMshwathi community members met at the Ndlebezembuzi sports field where they chatted to uMshwathi Mayor, Siphindile Mbhele and Deputy Minister Dlamini.

"We are here to remind the youth of uMshwathi about the role played by the youth of 1976 in the struggle for liberation.

“We want you to realise there are brothers and sisters who have passed away because they wanted you to be free from oppression. Now you are free, so make sure you do not commit to using and abusing drugs and alcohol," said Mayor Mbhele.
