Greytown Child and Family Welfare AGM

2016-06-29 06:00

THE Greytown Child and Family Welfare held its 53rd annual general meeting on 18 June.

In his annual report president, Mr R. Maharaj said the year had been characterised by challenges and new experiences. The staff had worked well together and held awareness campaigns in various areas, which led to those in need being aware of the assistance available - this resulted in many new cases.

Greytown handled 41 cases of abandoned children and 18 in Kranskop. Thirty-nine reports were submitted to court for placement of these children whose names and those of their biological parents were published in the Greytown Gazette.

Currently there are 482 children in foster care under the supervision of the society's social workers.

The pre-school, run by the society, is now in its 38th year with children benefitting considerably from the school classes in that they are prepared for formal schooling.

Office bearers elected for the following year at the AGM: President: R.Maharaj, vice-president: Miss M.Bridgebookan, secretary: Miss S. Balwanth; treasurer: I.M. Archer, committee members: Miss R. Chetty, Ms A. Hariparsad, Miss N. Zuma, Ms D. Singh, Mrs V. Singh, Ms T. Shabalala, Miss N. Hemraj, Ms R. Thaver, Ms I.Pillay, Ms J. Naidoo and Ms P. Naidoo.
