2016-03-09 06:00

THE first Mascor Golf Business League match of 2016 was played on Saturday 5 March with a record entry of 10 teams. The teams are Mascor, Just Cheese, CPS, Bracken, Pannar, GTN Development, GTN Umvoti, Umvoti Repairs, Rhino Charcoal and Greytown Sharp Shooters. This league is contested over four Saturdays during the year and consists of teams of three players representing businesses from the Umvoti district, with three development sides also participating.

The Mascor Business League floating trophy is at stake, as well as bragging rights for next year.

The Mascor Monthly Mug for March was also played at the same time. The extreme heat got to most players, judging from the scores, but Steve Muna handled the conditions best and won the B division and the Mug on 66 net. Second was Flip Botha on 70 net. A division: 1st Gareth Larkan 69 net. Second Thokozane Chonco 71 net. The winning team was Pannar (106 points). Second Just Cheese (101) and third GTN Development (99). We thank Bracken for sponsoring the team prizes and Mascor Greytown for the individual prizes.

Next up is the Arcadia golf weekend, an exciting weekend of golf played at St Cathryn's and Greytown, which takes place on 19 and 20 March. The proceeds of this competition goes to Arcadia and we urge our golfers to support this worthy cause, as well as St Cathryn's Monthly Mug which takes place this coming Saturday 12 March.

Greytown Country Club has entered the KZN Midlands Golf League again for first time in a number of years, and congratulations to Tienie Muller (captain), Steve van der Merwe, Boy Zuma and Humphrey Msomi who represented us against strong competition. Our next league match is on 20 March against Estcourt at Estcourt.

Vernon Hohls lost out on the money as he was not present at the time of the draw. The next attendance draw will be on Friday with R400 up for grabs. Be here from 6.30am and you could be the lucky winner. Chicken lasagna with salad on special on Friday, R50 per person.
