‘Greytown Gazette’ apologies for left-out municipal advert

2016-06-01 06:00

THE Greytown Gazette records an apology to Umvoti Municipality for the non-publication of Notice number 3115 relating to a special council budget meeting which was due to be held on Friday 27 May at 2pm in the Council Chambers.
The advertisement was processed by this office as usual, but unfortunately there was a mix-up in the final production and the advertisement was left out. A written apology was sent to the municipality last Wednesday.

The Greytown Gazette editor went to the meeting at 2pm. There was one ANC councillor present. On questioning the Municipal Manager, Mr B. Xulu as to when the meeting would start he said probably 3pm, and that he was waiting for the Mayor, Speaker and a Councillor to return from a meeting at Umzinyathi and when they arrived the meeting would start.

The Greytown Gazette was subsequently informed that the IFP would not be attending the meeting because although it was called as a special budget meeting no budget documents had been provided with the agenda – the IFP submitted a letter of apology. The DA Councillor also apologised.
However the meeting started after 3pm when the three arrived from Umzinyathi with the Speaker IFP Councillor M. Yengwa making up the quorum.
