SUMMER is for swimming and our primary and high school swimmers competed against various other schools. In the recent quadrangular gala, Hermannsburg high girls’ and boys’ teams were each placed second behind the teams from Wembley College, giving Hermannsburg second place overall as our Lila de Wet clinched her position as U14 champion.

Wartburg-Kirchdorf and Greytown High schools were placed third and fourth respectively.

At the relay gala in Pietermaritzburg, our primary school team swam well, but came seventh against Lynford School, Cordwalles, Gert Maritz, Longmarket Girls’, The Wykeham Collegiate and Richmond.

At the fun gala in Wartburg the team swam against Wartburg, Wembley, Mooi River, Domino Servite Primary schools, achieving some third and fourth places to show a definite improvement since the relay gala. There were no overall team positions in this fun gala.

Our cricketers have not been idle either - our U13 team played against Maritzburg College, making 42 runs off 20 overs for the loss of eight wickets. College replied with 43 runs in five overs for one wicket, winning by nine wickets. Our primary school team then took on Domino Servite School, who made 22 all out after 10 overs. Benjamin Rabe 4 for 4, before Hermannsburg replied with 23 runs for five wickets to win the match by five wickets.

We apologise for a error in our report of 15 February: Ariya Khan was the U8 swimming champion at our recent inter-house swimming gala. We trust that all our pupils and teachers have enjoyed a relaxing long weekend, and look forward to our high school open day on Friday, 26 February and Saturday, 27 February. Please contact John Pope on 079 496 0510 for details about the open day.
