IN 2015, Hugh Bouwer wrote the International German Olympiad (Internationale Deutscholympiade). His high score was rewarded with a trip to Germany from 17 to 30 July representing South Africa.
In the first week he and other winners participated in various German workshops, including creative writing and presentations, before competing in the international rounds of the Olympiad during the second week, which included writing a newspaper article, delivering a presentation and competing in a quiz.
Hugh reports he learnt a lot about the German language and about different cultures, as well as making friends from all over the world. He met 124 German-learning pupils from 64 countries.

At the end of the day Reedbuck managed to edge out Bushbuck to take the Christél Brooks Trophy (Athletics Spirit Cup) and the Rommelspacher Trophy for the winning house.
