SINCE the second term our Zulu first additional language pupils participated in a series of three rounds of national Zulu Olympiads, culminating in the final round with some outstanding results.

Zenande Magubane took top honours by achieving a superb 90% in the Olympiad for Grade 8, sharing first place nationally with a pupil from St Mary’s Waverley, in Johannesburg.

She was closely followed by three classmates, who all ranked third nationally with an excellent 86% each - Nqobile Sithole, Sinqobile Mbambo and Nongcebo Mene. In Grade 9, Nondumiso Dlamini was awarded a bronze medal for her outstanding achievement in the Zulu Olympiad, coming third nationally with 87%. These are very pleasing results, and in time more pupils will have the confidence to enter this level of academic competition. Well done - halalaaaa bafundi bethu.

Our U13 cricketers made 123 runs (J. Königkrämer 40) against Greytown Junior School, before bowling them all out for 52 runs (B. Rabe 3 for 2) to win the match.

The U15 Titans took on Grace College, who batted first to put up a total of 138 for 2 in difficult fielding conditions due to a saturated outfield, Hermannsburg replied with 69 all out.
