OUR music department has been busy. On 25 April, our Viva Voce Girls’ Choir and Grade 12 music pupils attended an inter-schools’ music evening at Epworth in Pietermaritzburg with St John’s DSG. Our choir (singing English, German and Xhosa songs) and soloists, Meike Meyer, Jordan Pope and Elisabeth Tönsing, did us proud, delivering performances that earned them accolades for their performances and concert etiquette.

The next day our Grade 11 & 12 music pupils attended the “Oliver!” workshop at Hilton College, to study this matric set-work. Apart from gaining invaluable insight into the work, they met with other music pupils and teachers from around the province, providing the ideal networking opportunity.

We congratulate our musicians on their achievements in the international ABRSM examinations, where we will be entering candidates for Grade 8 Practical (the highest grade possible) in 2017.  Singing (vocal): Grade 7 - Rhonda Christiansen, Christel Brüggemann; Grade 6 - Meike Meyer; Grade 5 - Lydia Köhne, Jordan Pope; Grade 4 - Clara Kohrs; Grade 2 - Nonjabulo Khoza, Stephanie Meyer; Grade 1 - Ntokozo Zondi (with merit).
Flute: Grade 5 - Lydia Köhne; Grade 4 - Elisabeth Tönsing. Piano: Grade 6 - Rhonda Christiansen; Grade 5 - Clara Kohrs (with merit); Grade 3 - Elisabeth Tönsing; Grade 2 - Philip Lütge. We are looking forward to this weekend’s Schulfest 161, which reprises the successful format of last year’s jubilee event. From the music recital on Friday, to the service on Sunday, the weekend will be filled with good fellowship, fine food and  sporting action. Please book suppers in advance to avoid disappointment phone 074 125 0054.
Further details can be found at www.hermannsburg.co.za/schulfest. Be there.
