ONLY the best get invited, and our congratulations to Jordan Pope, who has been invited to sing Ein Schwan (Grieg) at the Best of the Eisteddfod Concerts at The Wykeham Collegiate, following his performance of the piece at the Pietermaritzburg Eisteddfod (Classical Voice at Grade 7 level).

Jordan also impressed the full house at the KZN Midlands Youth Choir concert last Thursday evening, along with Hermannsburg’s Bro-Ties, Viva Voce girls’ choir and a variety of pieces presented by our soloists, duets, pianists and flautists, before the Midlands Choir took to the stage.

The audience thoroughly enjoyed their repertoire for the evening, which included competition pieces for future and past choir competitions. Our thanks go to the KZN Midlands Youth Choir and to our teachers and parents for making it possible for our young musicians to showcase their talent.

In their first game of the season, our junior girls’ soccer team drew 3-3 against Wartburg, and the seniors finished 0-4 to Wartburg, playing here at Hermannsburg.

The boys played away against Wartburg, the seniors finishing on 2-7 and the juniors on 1-4.

Our U11 hockey boys did very well at the day-night tournament in New Hanover - they won three of their four matches quite convincingly - the scores were Eston (0-4), Ixopo (3-0), Wembley College (4-0) and New Hanover (5-1) - to reach the final against Eston, who managed to score two goals to win the tournament, with Hermannsburg taking the silver medal.

Well done, boys, and a big thank you to the organisers of the tournament.
