SINCE January there has been an eye-catching new logo in the dairy section of local supermarkets. It’s the spring fresh green Moo2u label on 2 litre bottles of milk.

Moo2u is a family dairy and processing plant situated just 15kms outside Greytown with strong local connections, owned by Mike van den Berg and Graeme Jarvie, with the processing plant run by Colin and Jenny Armstrong.

With the focus on delivering products - milk, maas, cream and butter at present - to a market within a 150km radius, the products are guaranteed to be the freshest.

Moo2u currently runs a herd of about 700 milk cows that are mainly pasture-fed and spend their days roaming freely on open grasslands.

Raw milk from grass-fed cows is known to produce many beneficial micro-organisms. The herd is a mix of Holstein Jersey and Dairy Swiss breeds, which results in milk that is high in butter fat and rich in protein.

To ensure the milk meets the company’s highest standards it is tested every day. The cows are also monitored individually on a state-of-the-art rotary system, which immediately detects any problem that might affect the milk quality.

Maas, which is marketed under the brand name Majayive, is said to be the smoothest and creamiest.

The Moo2u operation has also provided welcome employment for 12 people in the dairy, and many more on the farm.
