GUESTS of honour at the Greytown Secondary School awards last Wednesday were three former pupils and their mother – all members of the Moorad family, formerly of Greytown.

The three siblings matriculated from GSS and then furthered their education in Durban.

The oldest, Ahsraf, studied psychology and physiology and who has a number of qualifications in counselling and applied spirituality. He subsequently began his own personal development company “Human Potential Unlimited” and travels the country teaching his “Blissful Living Self-empowerment programme whil featuring on radio and television. He is a pioneer in a trans-disciplinary field - pscho-spiritual science - and is writing a series of books.

Many Greytonians, who have watched the TV programme Magic with Mo might not have realised that this talented magician is Mohammed Moorad, former Greytonian who matriculated from GSS in 1998 (as head prefect). He completed his degree in electronics engineering with honours and while studying discovered his passion for the art of magic eventually giving up his career in business to pursue his love for this art full time in 2010.

Performing under the name “Mo Magic” in just five years he is well established, celebrated and popular appearing in many stage and television shows locally and abroad.

He can be seen on SABC 3 every Saturday at 7pm until the second week of January.

Completing this talented trio of ex-Greytonians who matriculated in 1999, also as head prefect and dux of GSS is Zeenat, who studied medicine qualifying summa cum laude in 2000. This year Zeenat graduated in her specialisation in haematology and is working at Albert Luthuli Hospital and studying for her medical Masters degree. All this has been achieved as a happily married woman with two children and a third on the way,

Addressing pupils at the awards, the Moorads emphasised that their many achievements were thanks to their mother’s support and encouragement over the years.
