DESPITE the icy wind blowing in from the snow-capped Drakensberg there was a great attendance at the Garden Club meeting last Tuesday to view and learn the fascinating facts about proteas from Juanita and Murray Mason at Brayleigh.

The well wrapped-up audience were most impressed as Juanita outlined the start of her protea project. She and Murray undertook detailed research as well as visited proteas farms before starting the project with just 600 plants of six varieties.
She now has 5 500 plants of 25 different species enabling an almost continuous supply of these very special flowers.
