THE Farmers’ Agri-Care Monthly Mug was played in sweltering heat, at the new 9am time slot this past weekend, which seems to suit members who have to travel.

It was great to have a guest appearance of Gareth Larkan, and we hope to see other Greytown visitors play in the Mug.

We are always pleased to see father and sons play together, this week we had Mike and Justin Harrison as well as Neill and “Nunu-Pie” Manser.

Results:

1st: Merwin Rabe nett70

2nd: Mike Harrison nett 71

3rd: Dieter Meyer nett 73

Nearest to pin 9/18: Deon van Dyk

Captains putter: Justin Harrison

Best Stableford: Dieter Meyer 36 points

At the AGM report-back meeting after the Mug, Brent Barkhuizen was elected new club captain for 2016 and the rest of the committee was re-elected, with all the current changes in cabinet in South Africa, the green-keeper was thrilled to keep his job.

Other changes are - new tee-off time of 9am for Monthly Mug. Carts now allowed for Monthly Mug and visitors are now allowed to win the Mug and the meat prize (take the mug home). It was also suggested that the 16th tee box be moved 50 metres back, as a safety measure.

At the AGM, players, members, visitors and sponsors were mentioned and thanked for their support of the club this past year. In a goodwill gesture members made a donation to the green-keeping staff, and this will be given to them at Christmas.

The chairman also thanked the Greytown committee for the good working relationship we have.

Members and sponsors enjoyed a delicious curry made by Ernie and Ann, and a happy evening was had by all.

The Mug of Mugs was played in overcast, wet and cold conditions, from 33°C to 12°C – an 18°C swing, with six of the eight past Mug winner’s playing.

On the day Merwin Rabe was triumphant with a nett 67, and the proud winner of the “Jug of Mugs”, with the runner-up Neill Manser.
