St Cathryn’s news

2016-03-02 06:00

A GROUP of riders from the Durban and Pietermaritzburg Harley-Davidson Club came for a breakfast run to St Cathryn’s on Sunday 21 February. What amazing machines we saw. The new speed bumps at Enseleni were a topic of conversation at the breakfast.

Some St Cathryn’s players played in the Jaco Botha Memorial Day and enjoyed the interesting format and socialising with players from other clubs. Thank you to the Botha family for a great day.

The Farmers’ Agri-Care Monthly Mug was played over the weekend and a larger than normal field took part, drawing golfers from Greytown Country Club, Maritzburg Golf Club, and players and members from the coast, Mandeni and Durban.

What is always nice to see is when a father and son play in the same competition, not to mention same three-ball, but the Meyer father and son combination did not reach the ladies tee on one of the holes - this must be a remarkable "feat". The "chirps" afterwards in the clubhouse were cause for much laughter and banter.

The green keeper has just heard that the turf managers of KwaZulu-Natal are coming to St Cathryn's for their monthly meeting on Tuesday 8 March.

This is an opportunity for the bigger courses to visit the country courses and share advice and information. Members are invited to be part of the day, and after the meeting, the green keepers play the course and then give their comments and advice. A sponsor for the day will also display their products.

The low water levels in the dam is of concern, but last week’s 9mm rain was most welcome, but will not help the dam. One or two boreholes in the area have reportedly dried up and there is still a long winter ahead.

Results of the Farmers’ Agri-Care Monthly Mug:

First Keith Stanger nett 70, second Merwin Rabe nett 71 oco, third Dieter Meyer nett 71 fourth, Kobus Pretoruis nett 74, fifth Bheki Mlangeni nett 76. Captain’s putter: the captain himself, Brent Barkhuizen, best Stableford: Merwin Rabe 38 points, nearest to pin 9/18th Dieter Meyer, nearest to pin for two on the eighth, Thobani Daniels.

Up-coming golf events:

5 March - Monthly Mug at Greytown

12 March - Monthly Mug at St Cathryn's

19 and 20 March - Arcadia golf days at St Cathryn's and Greytown country club

Please note the triangular has moved to Sunday 3 April.

Lee and Thora Earnshaw have joined the St Cathryn's team and will be on duty this weekend. There is no meal this Friday night as we are closed for a private function. To book for golf, phone Piet on 083 269 1661.
