“WE shall do everything possible to assist our youth thrive in their respective areas of specialisation,” said Umvoti Ward 13 Councillor, Musa Zondi at the artists’ workshop at Mbangweni last week to identify and nurture talent.
Councillor Zondi and Ward 13 Development Committee hosted auditions and a workshop for local artists which was facilitated by the Princess Chithekile Foundation (PCF) at the Mbangweni Community Hall near Matimatolo on Thursday.

The aim was to identify and nurture local talent so they will benefit from opportunities in the art industry.

The Princess Chithekile Foundation was founded by Remember Hlongwane to empower artists in their respective genres as there is limited support, especially for poor and illiterate artists and practitioners.

PCF seeks to restore the dignity of artists and practitioners and professionalise the arts industry. It has service centres in Greytown, Mpumalanga, Free State and Gauteng. Facilitator Mthokozisi Zibula addressed the need to form an art organisation with a properly structured constitution and emphasised the importance of consulting to get expert advice.

The current title foundation project is a film called Isifundo Soku Qala (The First Lesson) with the theme of developing coping skills and resilience against social ills such drug abuse and teenage pregnancy.

Mthokozisi Zibula, the facilitator, addressed the need to form an arts organisation with a properly structured constitution.

At the workshop talent scout Mxolisi Shabalala said: “I shall fund this song performed by Nomthandazo Ndlovu and Sbonga Phungula. Their skill to compose and perform a song within a minute is amazing.”

Those who won auditions for PCF must contact the communications officer, Mr Mthokozisi Zibula on 071 572 0414 or Remember Hlongwane on 082 470 6134. The email is
