Water update

2016-09-07 06:00

ALTHOUGH spring is here the much-awaited spring rains are still to come - here's hoping…

Lake Merthley now stands at 15.69% full.

The Greytown Gazette requested an update from Umzinyathi Municipality following the statement at the public meeting in July by Umzinyathi Municipal Manager and Umvoti that three Craigieburn pipeline contractors would be fired and replaced in the hope that the pipeline would be up and running by the end of the year.

In reply the Umzinyathi spokesperson said new contractors had not been appointed, but "the municipality is in the process of appointing". There has no been response to the Greytown Gazette's request for a timeline.

It is vital for all Umvoti residents to continue their positive response to saving water. The latest report from the SA Weather Bureau predicts that La Niña will be weaker than expected and the rains would come much later in the year.
