DOGS can and must be trained says well-known local dog trainer, Brenda Munitich.

We spend endless time and trouble educating our children. Your dog may be around for 15 or more years. Don’t begrudge him 10 minutes a day which is all you need to turn your dog into a good citizen. A happy dog will give you many years of service and happiness.

A spoilt, pampered dog is not a happy dog. A dog used as a plaything for your children or a punch bag is not a happy dog. If your children need a toy then buy them a toy, not a puppy.

A happy dog needs exercise and interaction with other dogs. He is a social creature. He needs the correct food, and amount. He must have no fleas or ticks and should not be a source of irritation to others. He should not cower, rather he should be a credit to his family.

Turn your dog into a good citizen - it is up to you as his handler and friend to see he is.
