ON Thursday night 26 May, our Cubbies Pre-school had their annual cheese and wine fund-raiser, which this year, wascombined with a fashion show.
The children had to dress up as a book character and “strut their stuff” on a ramp. They were extremely confident and delighted the audience with their cute moves. They were then entertained by the matrics while their parents socialised with friends.
The highlight of the evening was the auctioning of the braai. Bidding was fierce and we were overwhelmed with the generosity of the parents. The successful bid was
R10 000.
Phumzile and Desmond Mabaso are the proud owners of the beautifully revamped, “upcycled” drum. We would also like to thank Mr Grant Goble for being our auctioneer. On behalf of Wembley College we would like to thank the parents for a most enjoyable and successful evening. We would also like to acknowledge and thank our sponsors Mascor, Karl Bartels, Emergency Auto Spares, RM Truck and Tractor Mechanics, Umvoti Break, Clutch & Radiators, African Sun, Ultra Liquors, Wimpy, Beaucadia Beauty, Steers, Laurence Hill, Charles Cuff and New Dimensions.

Our Book Week started off with a bang as we had the opportunity to explore books in the cultural centre with Books2U. After this the exciting Hooked on Books team made books come alive in front of eyes. We explored new cultures and countries with a young Ethiopian boy who travelled with his grandfather to Addis Ababa.
Super heroes visited our phase and showed us what things are like in Superhero School. Fun was had by everyone and it was, as always, a most enjoyable morning where lovers of books could relish in the wonder of new worlds.

We are very proud of the effort that went into the preparation of the book character orals. This effort ranged from the content of their orals to their outfits. The following pupils received certificates for their outstanding presentations - Tyler Diedrick, Nicola Herbst, Sinakho Madela, Yethaba Mchunu, Kelly Cotterrell, Sebastian Kruger, Bridget Dede, Leah Tedder and Amoré van Rooyen.

The Grade 2 rugby boys have had an absolutely stellar season and end it off unbeaten. Well done boys for your hard work and determination throughout the season. It has been well rewarded. A big thank you to Mr Fergus Buchan (Uncle Ferg) for his influential coaching.

On Friday 27 May Wembley sent the U10, U11 and U13 hockey girls and U11, U13 and U15 rugby boys to battle it out against Felixton on their home turf. All the teams did their best and an enjoyable afternoon was had by all.
Once the day’s sport had come to a close, our players either went to their host families or to their accommodation with their parents.
On Saturday 28 May all the hockey fixtures were played by the U10, U11, U13, U16 and Open boys’ hockey and the U10, U11, U13, U16 and Open girls’ hockey. The final two games, open girls’ and boys’ hockey, were kept for the end. After all the scores were tallied up, Felixton won the trophy 8-3.
