ON Friday 9 June Grade 1 pupils took a trip to the Umvoti Fire Station where we met the strong and brave fire fighters. They showed us their uniforms and fire extinguishers.
We each had a turn to climb into the fire engine, hold the big hoses and climb up the tallest ladder.  The most important message was that we are actually too small to put out a fire and need to get ourselves out of the situation as fast as possible.
We thank Mr Thobani Ndaba for arranging this visit and Mr Vilikhazi and his team for receiving us and making the visit educational, as well as enjoyable.

Friday 9 June was also a day of great excitement for the Grade 2s. It was the day of their shocking and electrifying market day. Their faces were painted with brightly coloured lightning bolts and they were excited to sell their delicious merchandise.
Being grateful for good weather and many customers, our Grade 2 entrepreneurs made almost R4 000, which we would like to put towards buying a projector for the classroom.
Thanks to every pupil and staff member for your support - we appreciate you. On Tuesday evening 13 June, a Grade R meeting was held to “demystify” the concept of learning to read.
Pupils showed off the skills they already have been taught in a reading lesson demonstration. Thereafter, Mrs Goble shared her insight into how children learn to read, and gave parents some tips on how they can help their little bookworms.
The parents were relieved to hear they have already done so much to help their children along the road of learning to read. We are proud of all the art that was entered and exhibited at the Royal Show from the SP Phase.
I am sure many of you that visited the show saw Wembley’s art. Special mention must be made of Adrian Hill and Mark Schofield in Form 1 for receiving first prize in their respective categories and Mia Schneider in Grade 6 who was awarded a highly commended prize.
Marc and Sarah Barber entered some photos on the show. Sarah also entered the cooking section. For the photos Sarah received two highly commended, one commended, one second and special prize. She won the trophy for best photograph in the junior section. For her brownies, she received a first and her meringues a third prize.
For Marc’s photos, he got a highly commended, a commended and a third place. They also entered their rabbits for which they received the the Dr Harry Boyd trophy. We are sure you are all aware of the devastating fires that spread through Knysna last week. After only 24 hours, and after sending only two WhatsApp messages, the community of Greytown managed to fill an entire Wembley College Quantum bus with blankets, bedding, clothes and food, which was driven down in a truck to Knysna on Wednesday.
A grateful thank you to Renate Hiestermman, Juanita Mason, Michelle Barber, Delia Herbst, Johan and Laetitia Wolmarans, Shaleen Moodley, Julie Cottrell, Karodias (R1 000 worth of food), Aheers Multisave (R3 000 cash donation) and the Lutheran Church Community for your contributions.
