Bank client robbed outside home

2015-06-23 06:01

A GANG of brazen armed robbers followed a bank customer from the Upper Highway area to his Pinetown home and robbed him of a large sum of cash in broad daylight last week.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said three robbers had followed the customer, who just had drawn cash at the bank, to his Van Riebeeck Road home at around 1.25pm. He said it was the second recent incident in the area where a bank customer had been followed from a bank and robbed.

“The robbers, who were in a silver Volo held the man up as he entered his property and robbed him of cash and his cellphone as well as his car and house keys. There were no injuries during the incident,” he said.

Jackson advised bank customers and business owners to use EFT payments if possible and to be aware of their surroundings when drawing cash.

“Criminals observe the movements and routine of their victims closely, but crimes are also often opportunistic. “A good defence against becoming a target is to always be aware of your surroundings and the people around you, especially in potentially vulnerable circumstances,” he said.

Jackson advised bank customers not to draw cash alone and to drive to the nearest police station and call their security company if they suspect they are being followed after visiting the bank. - Supplied
