Bogus cops strike in Waterfall

2015-07-21 06:00

A WATERFALL family is still in shock after three men, posing as police officers, robbed and threatened to kill them last week.

Hillcrest CPF public relations officer Steven King said that the property owner was approached by three men dressed in SAPS uniforms.

They advised him that they were looking for suspects on his property. They showed him a badge and then the lights went out for the scheduled load shedding.

“The men then proceeded to a tenant’s room and kicked the door down. They told the occupants to lie on the floor and not to look at them because they will shoot them [if they do], saying they were from the police.”

King said the group had grown to five and another two men had reflective vests on.

“They proceeded to take all the cash in the room as well as cellphones and other items belonging to the occupants.

“The property owner realised something was wrong when the men left, and they gave chase.”

The men had arrived in a silver VW Polo, but unfortunately escaped.

“According to the property owner the men were all armed and in full police uniform. SAPS is investigating. This is the third case reported over the past 24 hours involving bogus cops,” he said
