EXPERIENCE the soulful performance of one of South Africa’s most versatile singer-songwriters, Josie Field, who will perform some of her best work, alongside her producer and guitarist, Kevin Leicher, at Open Strings in Kloof on Friday 11 September.

She has four albums and had received six South Africa Music Award (Sama) nominations by 2012, including Best Female Artist.

Field has a unique voice as well as having a vocal style that sets her apart from the mainstream pop princesses of the music world. Having dabbled in soul, blues and country in her third album, with elements of jazz coming through on her latest release, Field is no ordinary folk musician.

Her debut album Mercury was the spark that started the fire back in 2006. Several songs receive radio play-listing and the album sold well.Field followed that up in 2008 with Leyland, which was a deeper, slightly darker record.

She received three Samas and two MK Award nominations for the album, but has not stopped there. 1984 was released in early 2011 and was an instant hit receiving three Sama nominations in 2012, including the coveted Best Female Artist nomination.

Field has had airplay on every national and regional radio station in the country and shared the stage with international acts including, James Blunt, Ziggy Marley, Westlife, Miss Higgins and Michelle Shocked. She was also one of the artists who sang for Nelson Mandela at his 90th birthday party and performed at Fan Parks at the semi and finals of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.

In 2010 Field became ambassador for the Levi Strauss Curve ID campaign, which has changed the way woman shop for jeans. In the following year her song, Power, taken from 1984, was partnered with the Suzuki Kizashi advertising campaign.

In 2011 Field organised her own music festival, The Drake Music Festival, which she promoted, managed and ran herself. Teaming up with Laurie Levine (U.S. singer-songwriter) in 2013 for Side By Side, their folksy side project, resulted it being dubbed SA Best Collaboration of the Year.

Tickets are R80. Doors open at 6pm. - Supplied.
