A 68-YEAR-OLD woman was severely beaten up and choked by a 34-year-old female in Rowles Avenue, Waterfall on Wednesday.

According to Hillcrest SAPS CPF public relations officer Steven King, the woman, who does not want to be named, was approached the young female who is known to her when she came into her house to make coffee after her gardening.

“The victim asked the female if she could help her and she replied that she is there to kill her. She then pushed the victim around and she fell to the ground,” said King.

“She said that the young female than pulled her to her bedroom where her arms and feet were tied up at the back and around her neck. The young female also put a scarf in her mouth and gagged her. She then kicked and jumped on her, and tried to strangle her.”

King said the victim alleged that she had to fight to keep her head down.

“She thought she was going to die as the young female kept telling her ‘today is your last day’,” he said.

“The young female eventually turned the victim around and propped her up against a cupboard and asked her for money. She took a laptop, cash, jewellery and a cellphone and then fled on foot.”

King said the victim managed to get her feet loose and pushed the window open with her head. She tried screaming but couldn’t as a result of her injury. She then managed to get a hammer and started breaking windows with her hands still tied behind her back.

“A neighbour heard the noise and saw the victim and neighbour alerted Hillcrest SAPS and ER 24. She was treated on scene and taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Pinetown where she was treated and discharged,” he said.

“The young female was arrested in Point Road, Durban after she contacted her fellow tenants who are renting the main house from the victims and told them to go and see if the victim is alive as she was robbed by two men.

“The tenants then asked her where she was and they notified SAPS who went and arrested her.”

A laptop, cellphone and a ring was recovered from the female. She is currently in police custody and has been charged. The victim is badly beaten and traumatised. She is receiving counselling.

The victim thank Hillcrest SAPS and ER24 for the good work and help she received from them during this ordeal. SA Community Crime Watch and Securelink has been assisting her in getting counselling. - Supplied
