Robbers arrested in syndicate crackdown

EARLY last week Constable TS Mngadi, Constable MS Khoza from Hillcrest SAPS and Heinrich Schwarz, an investigator, cracked down on a syndicate responsible for armed robberies in Hillcrest and surrounding areas.

Hillcrest SAPS CPF spokesperson Steven King said in June a white Mercedes Compressor with armed men held up workers from Martin and East on Inanda and Loop streets.

“On 16 October Mngadi, Khoza and Schwarz worked on information regarding the equipment that was taken during this incident. This information led to a shopping centre in Pinetown where one of the vehicles was identified as being involved in the armed robbery,” he said.

“The trio then kept watch and noticed another vehicle approaching. The vehicle stopped and two men then exited the vehicle and one of them climbed into the stationary vehicle. Both these vehicles then made their way to the exit and this is when the trio closed in and blocked them from getting away.”

King said that a search of the vehicles were done and one of the stolen items were found in the boot.
“On further investigation they found an Apple Imac laptop and an Ipad as well as a remote jamming device, which was used by the same vehicle an hour earlier at Kloof Shopping Centre.”

All men were arrested and are being detained at Hillcrest SAPS.
“Well done to these members and Heinrich for the outstanding work,” King added. - Supplied.
