Theft out of cars increase

2015-11-10 06:00

HILLCREST SAPS is warning motorists to be vigilant as theft out of motor vehicles is on the increase in the area.

According to Hillcrest SAPS public relations officer Steven King the latest incident occurred in Springside Road, Hillcrest Park.

“The robbers dug underneath an electric fence, broke one of the windows of the vehicle and removed a Garmen. They then forced open the door of the second vehicle and stole numerous items,” said King.

He said that the men made a getaway on foot and are still at large.

In another incident this week at Horseshoe Crescent in Waterfall, robbers removed a trailer wheel and hid it outside the property under a bush.

“They then forced open the window with a reinforcing rod and bent the burglar bars. However, when the men entered the trailer they activated an alarm and fled leaving the wheel behind,” he said.

King urged motorist to make sure that if they own a trailer it is kept safe.

“There has been a [notable] spike in the theft of trailer wheels lately with incidents being reported in Assagay, Botha’s Hill, Waterfall, and Brackenhill,” he added. Anyone with information regarding these crimes to contact SAPS on 031 765 9124.
