HILLCREST Christian Academy pupil Asia Marx is a 10-year-old singer, actress, photographic model and ballet dancer.

One of Asia’s greatest attributes is her confidence and ease with which she can perform on stage and in front of the camera.

She has been used in catalogue shots and films for a local surf brand and enjoys participating annually in the speech and drama festival, which takes place in schools nationwide.

She started singing lessons with a coach in 2016 to work on her vocal abilities. This has taken her from strength to strength.

Asia enjoys a challenge and strives to continually grow within her talents. She has done interviews on two local radio stations.

Asia is no stranger to performing in front of crowds and has done so with backing tracks and also with a full band behind her.

She has been into a studio environment where she recorded the song, Alicia Key’s Girl on Fire, which was played during her radio interview on Durban Youth Radio.

In January Asia entered the regional round of Talent Africa in Durban.

She entered the acting and vocal rounds and received an overall score which was above 80%; thus qualifying for the regional round of talent Africa which took place at the Roodepoort Theatre in April.

She entered the vocal, acting and print divisions and took seven gold medals, as well as an award for best junior entertainer for acting.

Doing so well in the national round meant that she qualified to go to New York as part of the South African team participating in talent America in July.

She had the opportunity to perform and audition for casting agents and judges who are looking for talent for some of the big names in the industry in various categories of performance arts. The little start again did very well and walked away with three medals and eight trophies, including four first place trophies for acting, singing and print divisions; as well as a divisional winner award, a pinnacle award for highest score in her age category for two or more divisions and the overall winner award in her age category.

She also received five callbacks from some of the judges.

Asia physical exercise and being outdoors, dancing, horse riding, cooking and spending time with the people she loves.

Her biggest dream is to enjoy a lifelong career in performance arts, singing and acting her way on to the biggest stages in the world.
