WINSTON Park Guardians is taking a zero tolerance approach to crime in the area and the company has organised a night run, walk on Friday 26 February at the Gillitts Squash Club to raise funds for much-needed items for crime prevention.

Speaking to the Fever one of the organisers, Dave Ward, said this event is fun and open to everyone.

“There is an option to do either a five kilometre run or walk or a 10 kilometre run or walk. We encourage families to get involved and bring the family, including babies and prams, and even their dogs,” he said.

“There will be food stalls and drinks available on the evening with a DJ and music. We are hoping to get 400 entrants for the first event of the year.”

Online pre-entries can be made on www.roag.co.za or at Acutts office in Hillcrest. Pre-entries close on Thursday 25 February. On day entries can be done between 4pm and 6pm at Gillitts Squash Club, which will also be the start and finish area of the event.

“The event starts at 6.30pm and the routes will be well marshalled and marked with assistance from Metro Police. All finishers get medals. There is also a competition for the school with the most entries – that school will win R2 500 of A4 paper,” he added.

Ward encourages local businesses to get involved in terms of sponsorship, hand-out of prizes or assisting with watering holes on the route.

“If successful we intend to have this event on a quarterly basis,” Ward said.
