Five arrested for Inchanga murder

2016-02-09 06:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, noted with appreciation a breakthrough made by police, who arrested five men in connection with the recent murder of two in Inchanga.

The MEC said this will send a loud and clear message to criminals that police will leave no stone unturned in bringing them to book.

Mchunu was commenting in the wake of work executed by the joint operation by the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Task Team, Inchanga detectives, Pinetown Tactical Response Team and Pietermaritzburg Tactical Response Team to search and trace men involved in a shooting at KwaNdokweni sports ground recently.

On 24 January, Bongani Hlatshwayo (38) and Phillip Dlamini (68) were killed during a meeting at the Kwandokweni sports ground in Inchanga. Four others sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital. Charges of murder, attempted murder and malicious damage to property were opened for further investigation at Inchanga SAPS.

The five suspects will appear in the Camperdown Magistrate’s Court soon.

Mchunu welcomed these arrests, saying the government will closely monitor this matter.

“We believe that a strong and loud message should be sent to those who go around shooting and maiming people. We thank the police for the work well done and urge witnesses to this shooting to work with the police to ensure that justice is done,” said Mchunu. - Supplied.
