THE Gideon Foundation NGO in Pinetown is fast growing and is creating opportunities for its beneficiaries as well as the youth of Pinetown and surroundings by calling upon local musicians to benefit from its new project.

Gideon Foundation founder Gideon Cebekhulu said the foundation has formed a partnership with Isabatha Lomtshezi Co-operative to identify and promote local worshipers and musicians to fulfill the organisations motto which is ‘nurturing body, soul and spirit’.

“We are working with various renowned and talented musicians as well as municipalities around KZN on this project. We want talented individuals and groups to get in touch with us to start the process.

“They will benefit by getting access to our studios for recording and exposure through events that we host. We are also calling upon school Christian movement (SCM) in schools so that we can share with them our project objectives.”

He said the organisation recently hosted a successful event.

“We are proud to have successfully hosted a 10km family run as well as 5km walk at Inanda Dam and we hope our next fun walk will be bigger and better.

The foundation is also working with 38 girls who call themselves izintombi who perform Zulu dance and music from Itshelimnyama under the care of Celiwe Mzoneli. We also have a group of 15 boys from Eskhelekehleni who are part of the Zulu dance group.

“These groups will compete against other local groups in a competition that will be hosted in April at the Pinetown Civic Centre.”

The Gideon Foundation has also created job opportunities through its initiative that assists its beneficiaries who are orphaned, abused and vulnerable.

“This is a job creation initiative where our beneficiaries sell products to the community who suffer from different ailments.

“Through this initiative we also teach them to be independent and some of these children are now able to look after themselves and their families through the money that they get by distributing these products. We also train them on basic first aid skills and hold workshops on living a healthy lifestyle.”
