HEAVENS Kitchen 3610 is a humanitarian organisation established to feed the hungry and homeless in the Upper Highway area.
Since its inception in 2014, Kayleigh Symes and her fiance Abraham van den Heever have fed the hungry and homeless every Thursday evening through donations from companies and individuals.

“We started feeding approximately 20 people. Since then we have grown immensely.
“We now have over 50 volunteers who team up every Thursday at 6pm at Christ Church where we now feed between 100 to 150 homeless and hungry male and female adults.
“It's no longer just feeding the hungry physically but fueling them spiritually as well.

“We also help two needy and destitute families every month. We provide our homeless community at Christ Church with dignity bags made of necessary items every three to six months consisting of soap, toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrush, sanitary towels for the females, and so on. All this is done with donations and sponsors from our volunteers and the community.” says Symes.

The organisation’s winter drive is a beanie and blanket drive.

“We are collecting 150 of each and would appreciate all assistance. In addition we require juice, polystyrene cups, platters , spoons and after dinner treats.”

She said there are no restrictions to membership, and only kind hearted people who are ready to give freely are welcome.

“You don’t have to be rich to be able to get involved. Any partner of Heavens Kitchen is someone who is capable of mobilising needed resources for the effective implementation of the project.”

“It is our mission to feed and love the homeless and destitute in a broken society.
“We do require donors and sponsors as our aim is geared towards reaching the homeless and needy even beyond the boarders of Durban,” said Symes.
