DURING the December holidays, Highbury Preparatory first basketball team travelled to Pretoria as the top U13 team from KZN to compete in the SA School champs national tournament sanctioned by the Department of Sports and Recreation and Primary Education.

The boys met stiff competition from other provinces, but their spirit, skills and team work made them a team difficult to beat.
Coach Nkosi Bhengu had great faith in their abilities and they never gave up, no matter what the odds.

Highbury won the tournament after beating the school representing Western Province, 44-41. The Highbury family are exceptionally proud of this achievement as this was the school’s first time competing at this level.
Five of the boys, who were in Grade 6 in 2015, aim to repeat the dose in 2016 after gaining invaluable experience - the other boys have moved onto Kearsney College where they will be an asset to the U14 basketball team.
