THE Hillcrest Country Market is a country-style market in the heart of Hillcrest showcasing the best local products and foods, held on the first Sunday of every month.

The market is ideally situated at the Hillcrest Primary School where the community has access to indoor and outdoor facilities making the market a great success with traders and market-goers.

Located in the heart of leafy Hillcrest, a stone’s throw from the town centre, it is easy to get to and has ample secure parking.

The market officially opened in November 2013 and is about to celebrate its third birthday.

Initially started by brother-sister team Frank and Tracy Lyle, the market changed ownership in June 2015 to new owners, Clint and Ruth dos Santos, who strive to keep it operating at the same high quality standard as under previous ownership.

Speaking to the Fever Clint and Ruth said that the market aims to bring the country atmosphere back to Hillcrest and stocks a wide range of foods, arts and crafts.

“Live music keeps visitors entertained as they stroll along the cobbled street lined with tables offering shoppers any excuse to purchase something.

“The food side of the market offers delicious breads, homemade pies and more-ish savoury tarts,” said the duo.

To go with the breads are goat’s milk cheeses, sun-dried tomatoes, olives and various meats.

Fruit and vegetables are also available so remember to bring carrier bags with you.

“For those who love something sweet with their afternoon cuppa, make sure to buy a cupcake or a packet of homemade biscuits.

“A market would not be a market without crafts and the Hillcrest Market does not disappoint in this regard.

“Baskets, rugs, paintings and furniture are all for sale as are books, wine racks and for inclement weather days, trendy gumboots,” they added.

Ruth also encouraged the community to attend their Valentine’s Market.

“Our Valentine’s Market will have locally produced and homemade crafts, goods and food on sale. There will be children’s activities and the market is pet friendly. It’s from 9am to 1pm at the Hillcrest Primary School on 7 February, so please join us.”
