‘IF you’re born poor, it’s not your mistake. If you die poor, it is your mistake.’ - Bill Gates

I will be 66 years young at the end of this year - and in my life on this earth - and what a journey it has been coming from a poor background - and now being exactly where I want to be in my life.

Don’t let anyone tell you that money is not important – it’s right up there with oxygen and water you need all three to live! I have discovered that your self value, self worth and self esteem are directly related to your income or lack thereof! The more you think of yourself the more you will have.

To illustrate this, I want to tell you a story. I was walking towards my shop the other morning and saw myself and another girl mirrored in the glass. We looked very similar, we both had blond hair, bluey green eyes, and were of similar height and weight - I had driven in in my new car and she turned to me and said: “I had to borrow money for a taxi fare to come to work and I don’t know how I am going to get home”

I looked at our reflection and thought - what is the one thing that divides us? Me having everything I want(husband, home and money in the bank) and her having absolutely nothing (no relationship, no home of her own and no money at all) and it struck me - I thought I deserved what I had. She didn’t think she deserved anything. It was as simple as that!

Most problems come from a lack of self esteem. Women like to be liked, and all women face the pressure of other people’s expectations and sometimes we expect a lot from ourselves. Our first job as women is to get to know ourselves, but no one spends time doing this. We spend our time trying to please others - our mothers our husbands, our children, our friends. We often try to live up to other people’s expectations of us and sometimes we focus on negative messages. You have to have a clear sense of who you are.

I realised that i didn’t have wealthy parents to fall back on when I was growing up, and I didn’t have anyone who was going to look out for me and give me things, so I rationalised - all I actually had was my brain.

I just DECIDED that it did not have to be that way and I DECIDED that I would have a better life where I could have everything that I wanted and I DECIDED that I was worth the best and that I would be the best I could possibly be and all good things would be attracted to me. I will continue with my journey – and how examples from my life can help.
