A TOTAL of 3 000 excited children and their carers from 41 children’s homes in and around Durban danced with joy upon arrival at the ICC Durban Exhibition Centre on August 12 for the much-anticipated 8th annual IBV Children’s VIP Day, and they were not disappointed.

The day was opened in prayer by religious leaders, and the national anthem was sung. A massive cake from The Baking Pan was cut and the owner of the bakery, Prevan Pillay, promised they would deliver a birthday cake to each child there throughout the next year. A salsa lesson was then given by Sabrosa Salsa to warm the kids up for the day.

Entertained by emcees Dave Guiselli and Lwandle Ngwenya, the crowd went wild when the SABC cast of Uzalo made an appearance on stage. The highlight of the day was the performance by DJ Tshego, Kwesta, Cassper Nyovest and Aka.

Ashok Sewnarain, CEO of IBV International Vaults and the creator of this event explained.
“We were humbled by the generosity of the CEOs, business executives, pop stars, sportsmen and women, who once again volunteered and got involved to serve and entertain these children for a magical day they’ll never, ever forget.”

The event was unique in that no cash donations were accepted from sponsors. Corporates got involved by serving the children at the event or made donations in kind - food, entertainment and goodies that were given away.
