SHONGWENI K9 unit members were conducting operations at KwaNyuswa in Hillcrest, when they followed up information about a suspect wanted for various housebreaking cases in the Botha’s Hill and Assagay area.

Warrant Officer Buckthorpe and Constable Khwela from the K9 unit followed up on information supplied by the community on the whereabouts of the suspect. The 26-year-old suspect was spotted at a car wash washing his vehicle and was searched. He was found in possession of three laptops, silver necklace and a cellphone all suspected to be stolen.

He was charged for possession of property suspected to be stolen and will appear in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court soon.

KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the alert members who arrested a wanted suspect in the area. “Our detectives will work hard in trying to link him with other housebreaking cases reported to other areas. I also thanked the community who provided information that led to the arrest of the man,” she said.

Hillcrest SAPS CPF public relations officer Steven King also commended the K9 unit.
“This is a good example of how co-operation between security companies, communities and law enforcement can help to achieve arrests. Good work men.” - Supplied.
