Kloof man stabbed in home invasion

ARMED robbers stabbed a Kloof man as he tried to fight them off during a home invasion in the early hours last Thursday.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said a resident was awakened by the screams of his tenant on the property in Springdale Road at around 3.20am.

“A gang of three burglars had entered the tenant’s home through a window, but the tenant woke up when he heard noises coming from one of the bedrooms. He went to investigate and was accosted by the men who were armed with one of his kitchen knives,” Jackson said.

“The suspects then attempted to tie him up, but the tenant resisted and put up a fight, sustaining knife wounds to his head and hands as he tried to fight them off.
“The robbers eventually fled the scene without taking anything. The victim was transported to hospital to be treated for injuries,” he said.

Jackson said upon investigation it was found that the burglars had entered the home through an unsecured window that had been left open.

Kloof SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson advised residents to ensure all windows and doors ware secured and kept shut at night.

“It may be tempting to leave a window open due to the warm summer weather, but unfortunately, opportunistic criminals will take advantage if they think there is easy access into a property,” he said.

“Ensure all windows have burglar bars and for additional security consider installing strip or point-to- point beams across windows. Strip beams provide an additional layer of security and an early warning system should an intruder try to tamper with the window to gain entry,” he said.
