A 29-year-old man was arrested by Hillcrest members for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunitions last week.

According to Hillcrest SAPS communications officer constable N Manqele, it is alleged that members were performing crime prevention duties in the area when they receive information about a man who is in possession of unlicensed firearm.

“The members proceeded to a house in the KwaNyuswa reserve, where they searched the owner and recovered the 9mm Norinco with six live rounds,” said Manqele.

“The man was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and live ammunitions. He was charged accordingly and will appear at the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court this week.”

The acting station commander commended the good work done by the members.
